This Father Saved his 18 Month Old Son’s Life
This amazing story comes to us from the University of Maryland Medical Center, where an 18 month old boy was in poor health due to multiple congenital conditions, including a distended bladder and lower urinary tract obstruction. The conditions required the boy have a kidney transplant, and the donor was none other than his own father. This father is a real hero in our book, and we’re glad to hear they are both doing great!
In this five-minute video, Nicole Colantuno discusses her family’s experience at the University of Maryland Medical Center while her son Matthew received treatment for multiple congenital conditions, including a distended bladder and lower urinary tract obstruction, that eventually led to the toddler receiving a kidney transplant at 18 months of age. Matthew’s father donated the life-saving kidney to his son.
Nicole talks about the incredible care she and her family received from the different physicians they met during their time at the Medical Center, including Dr. Susan Mendley, Dr. Roger Voight and Dr. Rose Viscardi. She reports that, since the transplant, Matthew has become a very happy, healthy toddler.
