What to look for in a streaming music service?

These days, there are a lot of options for you to choose from when you’re picking a streaming music service. Because of mobile technology, listening to your favorite music no matter where you are is even easier than ever before, all at the touch of your fingertips. No longer do you have to repetitively change radio stations to find the best jams for your workday commute or long-distance journey. There are a few things to keep in mind, and a few snafu’s that you might want to uncover before you make your choice.

We’ve listed five of our favorite music streaming services for you to consider:

Spotify

Spotify is a very popular service for on demand music.  There are two tiers of service, and it’s very easy to use. You can either use the service for free and listen to a few ads, or pay $9.99 a month for high quality on demand listening online or offline.

Pandora

Pandora also has a free and paid version. Pandora shows the lyrics to each song for those that wish to sing along. The paid service is $4.99 a month and is ad free and gives you unlimited skips.  Pandora is internet radio and doesn’t offer on demand music. You can’t operate Pandora offline.

Rhapsody

Rhapsody is well established as one of the oldest music streaming services.  It has a large collection of songs and the mobile interface is easy to use.  It has 2 tiers of service.  To get music on demand it is $9.99 per month for an individual account.  They also have a tier called unRadio, which like Pandora, is more like internet radio without ads. unRadio costs $4.99 per month.

Amazon Cloud Player:

If you already have a considerable investment in a music collection, you may want to consider Amazon Cloud Player.  Think of Amazon Cloud Player as the musical locker of the music streaming service world. You can access it from any of your devices connected to Amazon Cloud services any time you want- including Roku devices, Smart TV’s and Sonos devices.  The paid version is $24.99 per year and allows you to store up to 250,000 songs.

Apple Music

If you are invested in the world of Apple with one of their mobile devices, Apple Music may be worth a try. Apple Music is controllable via voice commands with Siri.  If you enjoy saying “play this song by this artist” and having it start streaming, this may be the service for you.  Apple music is $9.99 per month.

There are many similarities with the streaming services available today. Sometimes it comes down to preference.  If you are choosing a paid option, do your research before spending money on a music streaming service. There’s never been a better time as for the music consumer as far as options are concerned. Get music where you want, when you want it, at a price you can afford.
